Why do ceramic plates get hot in microwave?
When this happens the microwaves heat the water in the ceramic dish. If the water gets hot enough it can cause uneven thermal expansion (some things get bigger when they are heated) which can break your dish. When it comes to ceramic glazes a few other factors come into play.

Although porcelain itself is perfectly safe in a microwave, not all porcelain plates are safe to use in one. Some porcelain plates have additional decoration that might be damaged by being microwaved. If a porcelain plate has metallic decoration of any kind, you should not use it in a microwave.

Are ceramic travel mugs good?
We found both ceramic options to be too heavy for toting around, and the double-walled ceramic option didn't retain heat well enough to be considered a strong contender. However, Ello's two vacuum-insulated stainless steel mugs hold heat well, are shockingly spill-proof, and look good.
Can you microwave porcelain mugs?
Yes, ceramics like stoneware and porcelain are generally save for microwaves. However, avoid microwaving any ceramic plates with metallic edges or finishes.
How long can I expect to get the sample?

Can you match a specific color for the glaze on the mugs I am ordering?
Sorry, we cannot guarantee a perfect color match with our glazes due to the limited amount of glaze colors we have as well as the variation in the way our glazes can look on the final product due to the forces of mother nature.
